Hello, my name's Andy Keen and I'm a UK based natural light photographer. My studio is located amidst some absolutely stunning scenery here on the fringes of the Snowdonia National Park in Powys, Mid Wales.

I'm also an Aurora hunter and I help to fulfil people's dreams, often a lifelong dream, of witnessing the awe-inspiring Northern Lights. Further details regarding this can be found on my main photoblog (see link below) or, indeed, by visiting the Aurora hunters web site.

To my mind photography isn't just a case of pointing a camera at something, and simply activating a shutter. It's more a case of how best to capture a shot in such a way that it does real justice to the subject, and ensuring that the end results are not only pleasing to the eye, but also somehow manage to convey a story and stimulate thoughts and emotions. I hope that you will see this reflected in my work.

Please feel free to leave comments, as they are always very much welcomed and appreciated. Above all else, enjoy your visit to my gallery, and call back soon!

Best Regards,

Andy

"Awe-inspiring, magical, breathtaking, spellbinding, mesmerising", these are a few of the words used by our clients to describe the Aurora Borealis or – as they are more commonly called – the Northern Lights.

In fact, no amount of words or, indeed, images could ever do real justice to the Aurora. It is, to my mind, one of Mother Nature's most spectacular natural phenomena – if not the most spectacular – and it's hardly surprising that it's on so many people's 'wish-list'.

The very first time I witnessed them for myself I was literally speechless. I just lay, silent in the snow, captivated by this truly amazing spectacle unfolding before my eyes. The only noises that I could hear were the faint sound of a reindeer bell tinkling in the distance and the sound of the my own breathing. It was a wonderful experience and one that will live with me for a lifetime.

Since then I have been fortunate enough to have seen the 'Spirits in the Sky' many times and I think that it's fair to say that I've become somewhat addicted to them. The beautiful thing is that they are always different. Sometimes they come in spirals, at other times as ribbons or bands, always varying in speed, colour and intensity. In order to fully appreciate the magnificence of this natural light display it simply has to be witnessed first-hand and, believe me, it's something that's well worth braving the elements for.

From our base at the Vasatokka Nature Resort & Youth Holiday Centre (Finland) we help to fulfill people's dreams, often a lifelong dream, of witnessing the Northern Lights. We also place a strong emphasis on education, and actively encourage students of all nationalities to take an interest in photography, as well as our natural world.

We cater for students, independent travellers, photographic tour companies, clubs and societies, travel companies and film crews – basically anyone who wishes to go in search of the Northern Lights, to explore the Arctic wilderness and experience the Sami culture.

Our Aurora hunting expeditions are led by a team of experienced, dedicated and responsible Aurora hunters, wilderness experts & nature photographers. We are extremely passionate about what we do, and we are always tenacious in our search. We don't just sit in one place, for example, waiting for the lights to come to us. We use a combination of knowledge, experience, modern technology and a network of local contacts to literally hunt for clear skies and, of course, Aurora.

On behalf of the Aurorahunters team I very much look forward to welcoming you to Northern Lapland, and to the adventure of a lifetime!

Best wishes, Kiitos (Thank you)

Andy Keen and the Aurorahunters Team.
